Nick Foles gets the Sports Illustrated cover treatment

Dec 11, 2013, 8:54 AM EDT

Even though it may not mean as much as it did 10-20 years ago, making the cover of Sports Illustrated is still pretty damn cool. Chalk it up as just the latest honor bestowed upon Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Nick Foles.

The unforgettable sight of Foles standing tall in the face of a blizzard has now been immortalized forever on the front of the weekly publication that’s been emblazoned by the likes of Muhammad Ali, Tiger Woods, LeBron James and Tom Brady. Only 49 more covers, and Foles will have caught up to Michael Jordan!

The text that accompanies Foles reads: “A dreadful start, no home wins before November, another winter of discontent looming in Philly. And then Nick Foles happened.” I’ll be looking forward to reading the cover story by Michael Bamberger.

Todd Herremans is also featured prominently in the photo, which interestingly enough, he is not the first Eagles’ offensive lineman to grace the cover of SI. You may recall the magazine strangely chose to highlight the riveting training camp battle at center between Jamaal Jackson and Hank Fraley in 2006.

So don’t go getting a big head now, Todd.

For those worried about the supposed SI cover jinx—first of all, get real. Having said that, the last time an Eagle was on the cover was Nnamdi Asomugha in 2011 according to the Inquirer’s Jeff McLane. That worked out well.

UPDATE: Chip Kelly doesn’t believe in any SI cover jinx. That’s all that matters.

As you alluded to, Kulp, in the age of the Internet, SI covers probably don’t have the same impact as it did in the 90s. But damn if that ain’t a great shot! Much-deserved honor. He played his way into this attention. No hype here.

It’s always cool to see our teams grace the cover. Especially when your whole starting rotation gets the cover treatment. Was that the last time any of our teams made the cover?

Haha, it’s ok as long as Todd’s fellow linesmen play like monsters.

Read the nice article about Foles..I also read the story about teams going from worse to first 9 years in a row.
My question is, has one team in a division gone from worse to first the same year a team has gone from first to worse. Again, in the same division as is most likely to occur in the NFC East this
    year.
    Basically, teams switching positions.

I watched this game with trepidation as the snow got heavier. Visions of the Chicago Bears- Phila Eagles game some years ago came to mind. I can’t remember when it was played, but the massive snow storm looked like this past Sunday?

Mike B that was the fog bowl with Da Bears that you are referring to. Todd is the weakest link of the line!!!!!!!! Peters, Kelce, Mathis, are the core grunt men!!!!!!!!

You’re all missing the point!!!! Foles was the perfect addition, we have superstars, Shady, Jackson, etc. But we are finally playing together as a team, remember, this is a rebuilding year, and we’re only supposed to be 4 and 8 via the prognosticators. Guess what!!! Rebuilt, and becoming a monster in a hurry!! It may not be this year, but if we continue to play together as a team, we might just finally be able to reel in one of those Superbowl trophy’s!!!!
