Photo: Chip Kelly Uses Amazing Phillie Phanatic and ‘Rocky’ Playcall Signs

Sep 9, 2013, 10:44 PM EDT

These photos are real. Taken by the Associated Press from tonight’s Eagles victory over the Redskins.

And they are glorious.

Not only did Chip Kelly make one hell of a first impression with the city of Philadelphia with the game he called, he also showed a sense of humor with his playcards you see below. Love you, Chip.

No word on whether the Phanatic card was for a hook and ladder, hail Mary, popcorn dump.

UPDATE: Here’s a USA Today story from today that talks about the communication system:

Many of the pictures and signals are intentionally humorous and based on what amounts to inside jokes, which are deviously simple and in effect create a language only players know.

A hypothetical example is a photo of Phil Mickelson indicating a snap count of two, because the golfer often finishes second. And it’s based on the concept of a combo meal at a fast food restaurant, where ordering a “No. 2″ at McDonald’s gets you a Quarter Pounder, medium fries and a drink.

Rocky must be D-Jaxx taunting D’Angelo Hall and then oops let’s give it to the tight end anyway, natch…

Shouldn’t they be using the Frenetic for copy right purposes?

My only question is, the Eagles just released 20 guys at the end of the pre-season and these guys are going to other teams. Wouldn’t they have knowledge working in Kelly’s system to what everything means and help their teams adapt to it? Do you think that Kelly will be two steps ahead and adapt to that way of thinking?

Man, I’m very impressed at what he’s bringing to the table. Seems like the players are buying it and the coaching staff is on-board. Definitely left the Andy Reid era in the dust.

I don’t think Chip has all that many secrets he threw around when he had 90 guys on his roster. I assume he knows better. Plus his style isn’t much of a secret anyway. “Here it is, now stop us.”

These cards were used on defense not on offense.

Innovation – Brilliant! I am NOT an Eagles fan – but what Mr. Kelly brought to the game was awe inspiring. It was exciting to see what innovation can do against the same old approach most coaches use. Congratulations to Chip Kelly – I’ll be watching him and his Eagles in the future. Thank you for a very entertaining Monday night.

I’ll be out there tonight screaming my head off for the Eagles. Can’t wait to see Chief Running Flab lead his 45 Little Indians onto the field. He looks like a Big Red Fire Truck in that red shirt. All he needs is his Fireman bust Danny Boy riding his back. In his honor, Golden Corral has set up Buffet Tables at the Airport for him. Since Andy has been in KC the Cow has become an endangered species. Go Eagles.

I thought the #2 at McDonald’s was the 2 cheeseburger meal?!

Do they have an Andy Reid sign to use when they want to take a knee?

Andy Reid used signs too. But every one was a picture of a meat lover’s pizza… and it had nothing to do with football.

Bobby you forgot about the picture of him at the Buffet Table alone. In KC cows are now on the endangered species.

Is it true Kelly is using Reid’s picture to take a knee?
