Quotable: Mornhinweg Makes the Steve Young-Mike Vick Comparison

Jul 6, 2011, 11:11 AM EDT

Eagles offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg has coached some great quarterbacks, including Hall of Famer Steve Young, but he believes Michael Vick could be better than the Super Bowl XXIX MVP.

Via Marcus Hayes on Philly.com:

“Here was a man who hasn’t played for a couple of years. However, if he did it the right way, I thought he could be a Steve Young-type player,” Mornhinweg says.

He considers, then continues: “Mike’s got a long way to go, but, you know what? I think he can be better than Steve.”

Yes, Vick does have a long way to go, but he’s not going to take that next step this season if this lockout drags on much longer.

Good read on Mornhinweg though. Once thought to be a rising head coaching candidate over the winter, the Birds’ offensive coordinator explains he is happy being Andy Reid’s number two–and having a shot at winning a championship. Let’s hope so.
