Spadaro: ‘Castillo is the Eagles' defensive coordinator'

Share

Ordinarily
we don't put much stock in whatever Dave Spadaro has to say, but it's
hard to argue any writer is closer to the organization than he is.
That's why we found this little nugget about Juan Castillo's job status
interesting, buried halfway into Spud's recent "News, Notes And Things I
Think" post over at PE.com.

"I give Juan Castillo a ton of
credit for the way he has handle the mysterious state of the Eagles'
defensive coordinator situation. Head coach Andy Reid hasn't met the
media since the day of the win over Washington, and his silence has led
to all kinds of speculation. Castillo is going about his job as a
professional and he answered questions the best he could in Mobile. He is the Eagles' defensive coordinator and Castillo has a big job in front of him this season."

What
Spadaro is saying mirrors my own opinion that reports of a search for a
new defensive coordinator have been baseless from the start. Andy Reid
has not conducted a single interview that we are aware of -- we can't
even confirm he's picked up the phone -- and not one team official has
indicated Castillo would no longer be the defensive coordinator, not
even Castillo himself
.

But
what we're wondering is whether Spadaro's information falls under the
"News," "Notes," or "Things I Think" column. Does he know for certain
Castillo will be back, or is it merely an observation that Castillo is
back until we are told otherwise?
