Video: Andy Reid So Happy He Could Literally Kiss the Philadelphia Media

Call me an Andy Reid apologist, but I found it hard to be overly upset about the Eagles’ 26-16 loss on Thursday mainly because Big Red was so damn happy about it. Between the standing ovation a beautiful Philly crowd gave the head coach of 14 years and the Gatorade shower the Chiefs players gave him as the final seconds ticked down, well… good for him.

It’s not like expectations are soaring for the Birds anyway.

Perhaps the most surreal moment occurred after the game though, when our own Derrick Gunn cornered Andy for an interview on Post Game Live. As the headline promises, Reid pulls D-Gunn in and gives him a smooch right on the forehead. Gunner is a veteran reporter, but that had to be a first for him—especially from Andy Reid.

Nice to see you, Andy. Good luck and all, but I hope we don’t hear much from you until four years from now.

You are an Andy Reid apologist.

Just spotted a #59 Mike Mamula jersey in the stands. Philly needs a 700th level. #Eagles

This is why Werth doesn’t get it. The Philly crowd doesn’t mind you leaving the city for another. Just make sure it’s not with a divisional rival. Andy would’ve never heard the end of it if he went to Dallas or New York or Washington.

With Werth complaining about the lack of respect, take a look at McNabb. Once he hangs up his cleats and calls it a day, the fans will be there for Werth day when his plaque is up on the wall next to Rollins, Howard, Utely, Hamels and the rest of ‘em.

Stop with the pity party Werth. You know what you were doing and how the fans would react.

Are you serious? Is this post a joke? I’m supposed to be ok with another team dousing their new coach with Gatorade on the sidelines of our home? Good for him??? What the hell has happened to us? I understand honoring 14 years he spent here and the joy that he brought me for a portion of that time, but this is ridiculous.
Not only are you an apologist, but are you even a fan?
“It’s not like expectations are soaring”, who cares. We turned the ball over 4 times in the first half and that team couldn’t pull away from us. We completely shat the bed and still had a chance. A game we should have won, and we are giggling about the guy who built up but then destroyed my team coming into our house and beating us with his new team.
Are we so frightened of how the rest of the country sees us as fans that we are turning into pussys?

“I’m supposed to be ok with another team dousing their new coach with Gatorade on the sidelines of our home?”

I didn’t tell anybody else how they should feel about it, I merely told you how I felt. And to that end…

“Not only are you an apologist, but are you even a fan?”

Does being an Eagles fan preclude me from being an Andy Reid fan? A football fan?

I don’t get angry about sports, I just try to enjoy the game.

        But I get angry

I wish that I had your enlightenment Kulp, maybe one day.
I have one team and I hate everyone else… Not ashamed to admit it. No, “I don’t have high expectations for the birds this year so I’ll root for the old coach who left my team in ruins…” going on here.
You “enjoyed” that last night? And yes, I would say that after the game started being an Eagles fan precludes you from reveling in the fact that “Big Red was so damn happy about it”. Yeah, the Eagles lost but at least Big Red was happy?
Like I said, I have no idea what has happened to us as a fan base.

I’m sure the depth of your disappointment is shared by many others, and I didn’t mean to imply that’s wrong or anything. It’s not like I was actively rooting for Andy either, I just thought from a human standpoint it wound up being a nice story that happened to involve somebody I supported for 14 years, and yeah, that made me feel a little bit better about having to sit through that slop the NFL calls Thursday Night Football. Nothing happened to me, I just don’t view all things in black and white terms.

On that note, while my allegiance is with the Eagles, as a writer I’m supposed to remain somewhat balanced too. While you may not agree with my take on this story, Reid kissing Gunner after the game is a good Philly blog post, and one it would’ve been difficult to put an overly negative spin on without coming off like a jerk. If you only want to listen to fans ranting about the loss, that’s what WIP is for. I’m not going to be negative just for the sake of being negative though.

We still may not agree on some of the details of the subject matter, and I appreciate that aspect of your comments. But I wrote what I wrote, and the last thing I was worried about when I did was whether or not it sounded like it was coming from an Eagles fan.
