Cliff Lee Hit a Fan in the Head with a Baseball (Off of Anthony Rendon's Bat)

The Phillies lost 5-1 to the Nationals on Wednesday night, which is okay because you can’t win ‘em all, and we’re all sort of waiting for the bottom to fall out anyway. However, we’ve come to expect wins when Cliff Lee takes the hill, and it was the rare failure to deliver that stood out.

Specifically, Lee may have pounded the strike zone a bit too hard, which could help explain how he was done in by four solo home runs – nearly more. It was starting to look like batting practice or even the damn home run derby out there.

That happens though, so we might as well just look at this guy who had really great seats… much better than his hand-eye coordination and motor skills in fact. A fan in the front row committed the ultimate E-10, allowing an Anthony Rendon blast to slip right through his hands and hit him in the cranium (h/t Deadspin). Expert analysis: that looks like it hurts.

Cliff Lee: always having an impact on the diamond. Hope the dude he hit didn't make out with too much worse than a bad headache.
