Game Chat: Phils Face One of Baseball's Worst in Minnesota

Share

The Phillies continue inter-league play this evening when they kick off a three game set with the floundering Minnesota Twins. As Matt Gelb points out, the Phillies may have happened into some luck this evening by getting Twins starter Nick Blackburn's turn in the rotatin. His 7.75 ERA is the highest of any starter in the bigs with at least eight starts.

He'll go up against Kyle Kendrick for the Fightins. From CSN's "What you need to know:"

Kyle Kendrick (2-5, 4.44 ERA) takes the mound for the Phillies hoping to
put behind him a dreadful five-run, five-walk outing against the
Dodgers.

It was the kind of misstep Kendrick hasn’t been having
lately. He’s made 17 starts since last July 6, and in those 100 innings
he has a 2.97 ERA.

Utley Utley Utley

You can tune in to watch Chase Utley's first at-bat in Clearwater this evening right here. Hope will start your car.

8:10 start tonight from the midwest. Tonight's lineup: 1. Rollins, 2. Pierre, 3. Pence, 4. Thome (DH), 5. Victorino, 6. Wigginton (1B), 7. Ruiz, 8. Fontenot (3B), 9. Martinez (2B)

Swag? Or Fake Swag?

Apparently the Phillies were wearing some custom t-shirts that Hunter Pence had made. They showed the Liberty Bell and read "Fake Tough," a clear homage to Nationals GM Mike Rizzo ripping on Cole Hamels for plunking Bryce Harper earlier in the season. Hey, at least it shows this team still has some ... swagger??? Is that swagger? Or is it just a questionable fashion decision? At least it's something.
