One Last Chance to Show Larry the Love: Chipper Jones Final Philly Series

Share

The Chipper Jones farewell tour rolls through Philadelphia this weekend as the Braves third baseman will be honored prior to tonight's 7:05 start. It's likely the Phillies organization will give Chipper some sort of parting gift -- the Marlins gave him some fly fishing gear -- but this weekend will be your final chance to show Larry the love.

No opposing team's fans will show Chipper the love quite like his teammate Freddie Freeman did down in Florida this week, however. They apparently put Jones on the Kiss Cam while he was sitting alone in the Braves dugout when his teammates jumped to show him the affection the old vet deserves. Pretty funny stuff. As for the contests this weekend at Citizens Bank Park, Kyle Kendrick (0-11, 3.95) takes on Braves right-hander Tommy Hanson (12-8, 4.33).

While the Fightins will face 15-game winner Tim Hudson on Sunday -- Andrew Bynum pitch and Cole Hamels Figurine Day! -- they'll miss red hot Kris Medlen who tossed on Thursday in Miami.

Still 4 games back of St. Louis and pretty much facing a must-win every night now it would seem.

As for Chipper, I'm not quite sure what the "Larrrrr-rry!" chants ever really accomplished aside from entertaining ourselves, but it's another case of "we've always done it so we just keep doing it," so I guess we'll do it some more this weekend. Jones was one heck of a ball player for the Braves and I can't say I'm going to miss him on the opposing team 18-19 times a season. Respect.

7:05 start. Get there early to see what fun Philly-related gift Chipper gets.
