As free-agent signings go, Kurtis Foster isn’t exactly
lighting the world on fire, but I suppose the Flyers can never have too many
6-5, 225-lbs. defenseman on their bench. Foster’s story is interesting though,
specifically the long road to recovery after suffering a broken femur on the
ice while playing for the Minnesota Wild five years ago.

Foster’s horrific injury cost him nearly a full year of his
playing career, and directly led to the NHL tweaking the icing rule to force
skaters to play the puck instead of the man. Here Foster reflects on that day,
his rehab, and of course all the cool metal parts that are in his leg. Worth a view.
