Want more Ed Snider? After press conference, he kept talking about this ‘disaster’

source:

Ed Snider caught plenty of attention with his combative attitude at Monday morning’s press conference and his insistence that the Flyers “don’t need a fresh perspective.

But when the press conference formally ended, and when the media scrums began, that’s went the real fun started.

We’ll get out of the way and let the quotes speak for themselves, although we have bolded a few sections to point you in the direction of the highlights. The emphasis is all our own:

From Tim Panaccio:

“I thought our training camp, quite frankly, was one of the worst training camps I had ever seen,” club chairman Ed Snider said.

“Not talking about wins or losses. There was nothing exciting. Nobody shined. Nobody looked good. I couldn’t point to one thing as a positive and I was personally worried. Unfortunately, my worries were realized in the first three games.”

And from John Gonzalez:

“There’s no question in my mind, anybody looking at this from the outside looking in, would say that three games is totally unfair,” Ed Snider said. “But, quite honestly, training camp was a disaster. I’ve been to 47 training camps and I’ve never seen one that I felt was worse.

“That’s not talking about Peter. That’s talking about our players, and it carried right on over to the first three games of the season. It’s not simply the three games you saw. There’s more to it than that. Basically, there are a lot of things I know that are private. Bottom line is, I have great respect for Peter Laviolette. I’m sorry this has happened to him. He’s a class act. He’s done a great job for us. He got us to the Stanley Cup Finals, within a game of winning the damn thing.”

“Unfortunately, in the business we’re in, the only way to find out [about the players] is to make a change,” Snider said. “You can’t get rid of all the players. This is why coaches lose their jobs and sometimes lose them because of the players, but we don’t know that until we make a change. Sometimes we’re right and sometimes we’re wrong. We think our players are better than they’ve looked.”

So, someone asked Snider, you fire the coach because you can’t get rid of the players?

“Right,” Snider replied. “You show me a way to do that, we’ll be glad to do that instead.”

So much for that trip to Lake Placid.

Respond to whatever you feel like.

I’m partial to: “Basically, there are a lot of things I know that are private.”

I could totally make something up about a player and I’d hear about it on 94.1 tomorrow. Love this town.

that’s kind of their job. they didn’t come to own these teams by running businesses that made no money.

Jeff Lurie didn’t run any business. he played fantasy football and borrowed money from his mommy to buy the eagles.

The Flyers seem to have NO LEADERSHIP…you can have a C on your jersey but it doesn’t mean you are the leader! Having a guy like Lecavalier in the room should help but it hasn’t yet. The only damn guy that has any fire in his belly is Zac Rinaldo! We need to trim the fat with Rosehill, Hall, and Newbury? WHO ARE THEY? We have some good young talent in ADK that can fill that 4th line up with some scoring, grinding and speed! If the “stars aren’t performing sit em down! A young defensman should be thrown into the mix.Hal Gill…really? OLD is not what our D needs!

Rosehill and Hall are the 4th line checkers we didn’t have last year. They tried the “scoring” route with the 4th line last year with Harry Z and Wellwood, and they were awful. There’s a reason 4th lines don’t put up points: there is not that much talent to go around. If every team had scorers to put on the 4th line, they wouldn’t be in the AHL.

He’s so out of touch with todays game. By the way Mr. Snider the ‘culture’ is slow lumbering players who dump and chase and then brawl in between. Also, why do you stroke your water bottle so?

Why are we not crashing the net? There were so many passes in front of the net from the corners (all 3 games) and nobody was there. We need a Tim Kerr or a John LeClair style player planted in front of the net and the goals will start coming. And as far as Peter goes, if the players aren’t doing their job, it’s not his fault, however, it could be the players don’t want him there. And look at Andy Reid, 5-0, yeah, must be the coach.

No doubt the Flyers and Ed Snider need to finally WIN the Cup, but is he wrong about the “culture” here? Whats bad about the cutlure here? Theres very few NHL teams thatd I’d trade there history with than ours. People are so quick to forget, but The Boston Bruins stunk my whole life. Mr Bruin, Ray Bourque couldnt even stay there because the Bruins stunk since the 70′s…. they went 39 years without winning and finally did 3 years ago….Chicago Blackhawks stunk and went over 50 years without a Cup, and now they won 2 in 4 years.. There fans didn’t even support them in Chicago, there games got blacked out, and there home games didnt sell out….. New York Rangers went 54 years without winning until 94’ ….They didn’t win until Messier showed up…and what have they done in 20 years? How many Eastern Conference Finals have they been in or Cups since 94′? LA Kings never won a cup until this 2 years ago…. They stunk my whole life too….Big cities definitely have there hockey droubts. Its hard to imagine who won them 38 cups since the Flyers last won in 75′, I know the Canadians won some, Maple Leafs, (but even them, theyve done nothing in 25 years)…Edmonton won 5, but have done nothing in 30 years….Devils won 3 cups in the 90′s… The Penguins were a horrific team from the late 60′s to late 80′s…Then Mario showed up and brought them 2 cups, but most of there history they have stunk…. The only team that completely sticks out as a perennial contender year in and year out decade after decade is the Detroit Red Wings…They are always in Conference Finals and Cups…

The Flyers have been in 6 Stanley Cups since they last won one, that’s more Cups than any of the teams I just mentioned. They also have been to the Eastern Conference Finals more than any of those teams….So Ed Snider provides good teams, the teams just don’t get the job done. Players and coaches have to be held accountable, because year in and year out the Flyers teams are always in the hunt from the players Snider provides. Thats why coaches continuosly get fired. I don’t believe there is anything wrong with Flyers culture, I see a perennial contender year in and year out, but seem like we are snake bitten…
