Akers Can Relate to Kyle Williams, Defends His Teammate

"We can all count. Those points would've helped."

That's about as close as Andy Reid has gotten in recent memory to criticizing one of his players. It was following the loss to the eventual Super Bowl Champion Packers during Andy's throat-clearing press conference. Akers missed two field goals in that game after missing only four the entire regular season.

So it's safe to say David Akers knows a thing or two about being the goat. Having been through it himself, he jumped to the defense of his 49ers teammate, Kyle Williams, who had two ugly turnovers in the NFC Championship game, the later of which basically handed Eli Manning and the Giants a trip to the Super Bowl on a silver platter.

Now, I know what you may be thinking. Do the 49ers actually have fans that care that much to be pissed? Turns out they do, and Kyle Williams was the recipient of vile, racist taunts on Twitter. He apparently may have received death threats as well.

Listen, we care about sports a lot, but get a grip, people.

David Akers felt the same way and stepped to his teammates defense.

So, now that Kyle has David Akers as his own Chris Crocker, we don't have to feel as bad for the guy. But damn, he's got to live with that one forever.

We would have really enjoyed getting to see Akers get a chance to kick the overtime game winner in the NFC Championship and go on to play for the Super Bowl. Alas, his Philly luck has followed him.
