DeSean Jackson: ‘I don't think can run with me'

If Darrelle Revis is experiencing any ill effects from his ACL tear from last September, he hasn’t allowed it to slow him down on the football field this season. Revis Island may have moved in the offseason, but just like that place from the TV show Lost, it’s still somewhere wide receivers can disappear for 60 minutes.

That could prove problematic for the Eagles when the go head-to-head with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 6, seeing as the Birds only have one receiver who has consistently demonstrated any ability to get open in the opposing secondary. Djacc has 28 receptions for 525 yards so far this season, while the rest of Philly’s receivers have combined for 27 catches and 315 yards.

We saw what happened when Jackson gets taken out of a game this season against Kansas City and Denver. Both defenses used their physical corners to press and re-route the diminutive Jackson at the line of scrimmage, throwing off the timing of plays and forcing the receiver to fight to get separation.

The Eagles managed to score 29 points combined in those losses. Now picture what the offense will do with a true shutdown corner locked on Jackson for most of the afternoon.

Jackson was welcoming the challenge when he spoke to the media on Tuesday though. It would probably be fair to say he doesn’t sound worried at all about matching up against Revis on Sunday. Here are a few select excerpts:

DeSean met Revis once before when the corner was still with the New York Jets back in December of 2011. Jackson was held to just two catches for 28 yards, but the Eagles also had a healthy Jeremy Maclin on the opposite side—plus Brent Celek went off for a big day with five receptions for 156 yards and a score.

Given what Riley Cooper and Jason Avant have been able to produce—which is nothing basically—Nick Foles may need to lean on similar contributions from Celek and rookie Zach Ertz at the tight end position this week. Jackson doesn’t think so though. Jaccpot plans on hitting the jackpot regardless of who’s in coverage and who’s under center.
