Eagles Trade Up, Take DT Fletcher Cox

Apr 26, 2012, 9:25 PM EDT

The Eagles sent fourth- and sixth-round picks and exchanged firsts with Seattle to move up three picks and select DT Fletcher Cox.

One thing about the NFL Draft: the Philadelphia Eagles almost always get their man in round one. In that regard, 2012 is no different.

The Birds started Thursday night with the 15th pick, but as they so often do, traded up once their target fell. The Eagles exchanged first-round picks with the Seattle Seahawks, sending fourth and sixth rounders to move up three selections, and selected defensive tackle Flecther Cox out of Mississippi State.

Cox is said to be a perfect fit for Jim Washburn’s wide-nine scheme on the defensive line. At 6-4, 298-lbs., the early-entry junior has a great burst according to scouting reports. He is a potentially dangerous pass rusher who often drew double teams in the competitve SEC.

More analysis of the pick to come, but the consensus is there were high fives in the war room after the Eagles announced the pick.
