Everybody is piling on Tony Romo’s choke job

Dec 16, 2013, 10:55 AM EDT

Tony Romo and the Cowboys put together a spectacular display of fourth quarter ineptitude on Sunday afternoon. For whatever unknown reason, the Cowboys opted to throw the ball over and over instead of hand it off to help the clock tickaway as they had a pretty damn comfortable lead.

Romo gave us all an early Christmas present by tossing two fourth quarter interceptions that allowed the Green Bay Packers to come back and win a wild game they probably had no business still being in.

The Cowboys loss kept the Eagles atop the NFC East standings.

But more importantly it opened up the floodgates of Tony Romo criticism / jokes.

Even other professional sports teams were getting in on the action like the Atlanta Hawks who tweeted the following from their official Twitter page:

Burn.

If you’re not familiar, Al Horford hit a buzzer beater in overtime to help beat the Washington Wizards over the weekend. Pretty clutch shot. Not sure of his quaterbacking skils though.

Tony Romo in the fourth quarter has quickly become a favorite holiday tradition in Philadelphia and beyond.

Easy to pile on the QB. Romo has his issues (most cities have issues with their QB). Vick certainly had his and Foles looks to be solid – we’ll see long term. However, Cowboys issues go far beyond Romo. Funny how no one is talking about the defense that gave up 34 second half points. There are 5 or 6 guys playing defense that should be on the couch watching games. Defense is awful. Put Drew Brees on the Cowboys and they aren’t much better. However, there should have been a ton of run plays in the 4th quarter so all the passing was no doubt dumb.

QBs get way too much credit and way too much blame. Romo was an undrafted nobody….the fact that he is in the top 6 or 7 QBs every year is remarkable. Easy to be ignorant and throw insults and garbage around but need to be able to step back and look at the full picture. Issues with ownership (big), marginal head coaching, worst defense in NFL with a 73 yr old D coordinator??, draft picks, etc. etc. etc. all that equals a .500 team at best.

I was there at the Verizon Center and you could just feel that things were going to go wrong at the start of the third period. The friend I was with was a Leafs fan and said the same thing you did in that it was eerily familiar to see a collapse like that.

I am not a Dallas fan but the Cowboys coaching staff should take more heat for this loss. Green Bay was not stopping the Dallas running game but they choose to go to the air over and over again. Why?

Tony Romo is a great QB…He will die trying. They lost a battle not the war. They need unity, togetherness not someone WALKING off the field….that’s not what team players do…..and I’m a BROWNS fan!!!!

What makes him great? It’s about winning and losing, and he is more known for losing big games. This was a big game for them, chasing a payoff spot.

Romolicious strikes again. He’s got talent and puts up big numbers against inferior teams, but almost always finds a way to blow big games in December or in the playoffs.
Thank Jerry Jones for signing him long term.

How did room let Ravens score 34 point in the second half? Had Beasley not pulled up 10 feet from where he was supposed to be it would have been a completed (had Beasley caught it). The first interception, Romo’s fault. The second is both on Beasley and coaching. Even if Romo checked that to a pass play all the plays before that were called by Garrett and his staff and they should have been running the ball a lot more. Your back is getting 7 yards per carry but only gets 18 carries?

THANK GOD Romo and the cowgirls blew it. The media has been swarming this “unexpected” December meltdown. All I have to say is give it to the cowgirls for having the perfect timing to divert the media attention away from the Eagles also noteworthy massive meltdown. Pffhew.

Im from mn and I don’t watch much football as we don’t have a team in MN that can win either. For awhile I thought I was watching the Vikings as they have the best record of loosing in the forth quarter. Who ever decided to pass instead of running like they did in the first half should be in for some questions and answers.

Tony Blomo reverts to his real self–making costly mistakes late in the game. Fault for the loss doesn’t fall entirely on hapless Tony’s shoulders. His defense took a powder. Dallas should have run out the clock with its ground game.

Not a huge sports fan but, even I can see when a game is thrown. The Chief’s threw the game against the Bronco’s, and now Dallas against GB, can’t you people see the winner is chosen before the game is ever played. The NFL owns these guys and they get paid VERY well to do what they are told. Its all about the Benjamin’s…

Ya know, the NFL must be concerned that games like this allow folks to think like that….so stupefyingly mishandled that throwing the game seems a legit possibility. I don’t begrudge your assertion – and might actually agree with you – except for the fact that Romo has blown so many big games like this. It’s always spectacular, and the deep, rich history tends to mitigate accusations of a quick one-off cash grab. Plus, would you really do it so obviously? Why go through the tedious effort of building the 26-pt lead? And who would want to play the fool/goat/chump time & time again on a national/international stage for any amount of cash?

Naaa, he’s just Romo being Romo.

My holiday season take on Tony Romo.

Tony Romo is the drunk uncle that gets smashed every Christmas and New Years. On those two days you cringe when you see him because you know something bad is about to happen. On the other 363 days He is such a nice guy that you find yourself forgiving him not long after the holidays are over. When he finally dies the surviving members of your family reflect on his life and everyone smiles when they remember the time he dropped his frankincense and threw up all over the baby Jesus where his casket now rests.

    Happy holidays everyone.

well ,nobody ever taught the cowboys how to play the game when you have a 23 point lead. If you remember

though, Parcels used to be the head coach, what do you think he might have done? Easy answer, pound the

rock down the field, run out the clock.Basic fundamental football. the current coaching staff are playing some kind

of “hollywood” football, pass, pass, pass and your out.Your job is to win games not build the “stars” stats! Offense

and Defense. Give Green Bay some credit they played 60 minutes of football! “Hollywood” dallas hasn’t been

able to get it right. Dallas has some of the most talented players in the league, the need a better coaching staff!

Look at the successful teams, good football players and good coaching staffs! It’s obvious. Its not easy. Make

some changes.Sure you want to be loyal to your guys, do what you have to do, evaluate the situation and go from

there. Come on J.J. Do u want to win or make money? Move forward.

Yeah, let’s see now, Romo gets mad as hell, tries to figure out why all this sh!t seems to be happening to him.. Well check it out, two games left, “Washington and Philly,” Romo’s still mad, goes off on someone.. F-U, you whining piece of monkey sh!t, you don’t like the way I’m playing, huh? Here, take the damn ball, go out there and try to do better than me. With these big fat meat hunks trying to block and stumbling all over the place how can I throw the ball right, one almost tackled me last time trying to get out of the way.. (Oh My Lord, you ain’t gonna believe it, Romo beat Philly and the ‘poo-butt Redskins, made it through the play- offs big time somehow and are in the Super Bowl).. Look out everybody, “It’s the Super Bowl,” and we ain’t in December anymore.. Let the “Whipping Boy” be himself, he is going to choke YOUR big fat ugly Butt, big time.. Good day, Pilgrims…
