Michael Vick reacts to Nick Foles being named Eagles starting QB

It can’t be stressed enough how impressive Michael Vick’s handling of the entire Nick Foles situation has been. We’ve seen so many veteran quarterbacks become indignant when a kid comes in and takes their job, and I know based on the comments fans have made in the past 11 months that many expected Vick to react the same if that day ever came to pass in Philadelphia.

It finally did come to pass on Tuesday with Chip Kelly’s announcement Foles will be the starting quarterback the rest of the way. In typical Vick fashion that we’ve become accustomed to since he joined the Eagles in 2009, the four-time Pro Bowler handled the demotion with grace. Per Les Bowen of the Daily News:

"You can’t be naïve. You’ve got to understand the situation. You’ve got to just know the most important thing for you to do is try to be there to support your team," Vick said. He said he and Foles met separately with Kelly. "I didn’t want to make this a hard decision for coach ... I didn’t want to make it a hard decision for anybody, for myself. You can’t be frustrated by it. I just wanted it to be a smooth transition, and it was. Coach Kelly, when we sat down, he didn’t even have to say much."

The writing was very clearly on the wall for Vick, and even before the announcement he acknowledged Chip couldn’t pull Foles the way he’s been playing over the past three weeks. The decision is that obvious right now. Vick admitted he would still love to be out there, but he understands the situation.

Say what you want about Vick as a quarterback, Vick the teammate and locker room leader continues to impress.
