Lynch beats up defenseless Birds

SEATTLEAdd it to the litany of plays that have come to symbolize this embarrassing season.

Marshawn Lynch ran into a glob of players, seemed stuck and ready to go downbut instead exploded like a bowling ball bursting through pins and scored a 15-yard touchdown.

I was kind of disgusted myself, defensive end Trent Cole said after the Eagles' 31-14 embarrassment to Seattle. I couldnt figure it out myself. I thought he was caught up in there. And all of a sudden he popped up. I didnt even know who had the ball. He popped out of that big pile on his way to the end zone. Nothing you can do about it man. Weve got to wrap him and get him down.

Linebacker Jamar Chaney appeared to have the best chance of wrapping up Lynch. But the Eagles bounced off Lynch like they were trying to tackle Bo Jackson in Tecmo Bowl.

I had him, but I still had a blocker on me, Chaney said. Youve just got to keep going to the whistle. You cant expect them to blow the whistle.

The Eagles were ready for Lynch. They certainly have seen his unforgettable 67-yard touchdown in Seattles wild-card upset of the Saints last season. And they saw more of the same this season. Lynch finished with 148 yards rushing on 22 carries and two touchdowns; in the season quarter he cut back on a counter trey and went untouched on a 40-yard score.

Still, the former was more impressive.

We saw that on film. Every team they playedthe Ravens, Giantsevery team they played, he ran like that, Chaney said. So we knew we were going to have to play through the whistle.
