Video: Robert De Niro Learned His Philly Accent from Bradley Cooper’s Uncle Ernie

Nov 13, 2012, 2:28 PM EDT

Bradley Cooper, star of new Eagles-centric movie Silver Linings Playbook, was a guest on the “Late Show with David Letterman” on Monday night to discuss his new film and the role his uncle played in teaching Robert De Niro how to talk like a Philadelphian.

As Cooper tells it, his Uncle Ernie is a heating and air conditioning repairman in the Delaware Valley and De Niro had him read all of his parts in the script out loud to him so he could get the true local flavor of such phrases as “Dallas Sucks!” and “Run the F&$^# ball!”

Just kidding about that last part. Kind of.

I really enjoyed silver linings playbook, as for the timing of my life in 2008 related very similar to Bradley Coopers role played in the movie. Nkt that I went to a loony bin, but was darn close to heading that way after finding out things about my fiance Nicole ( Nicki ) at that time. That was a great time for the city of Philadelphia! Any true Philadelphia fan would know, that in the juju scene where Jennifer Laurence spits out all the score that 2 were wrong. First is the night they had raisin bran on Halloween and the Phillies beat Tampa bay handley 10 to 2, wrong cause on Oct 31 2008 the Phillies and fans were celebrating by parade down broad st after already winning he world series 2 days earlier, cause I was there with my ex and our daughters. The other is when she says, the game against the Seahawks where the Eagles won 14 to 7, when I fact the Eagles won 24 to 7. Why would they have these actors read lines to be true when they were not? Outside this, the movie is excellent! !

That’s a total bullshit story. I know for a fact that the directors assistant taped one of the teamsters who worked on the. Movie. He read Deniro’s whole script as the recorded it. They call him Simmzy. Not sure of his real name.
