Claude Giroux is still not going to the Olympics

Feb 6, 2014, 12:00 PM EDT

source: Team Canada announced the Olympics replacement for Steven Stamkos this morning and it was not Flyers Captain Claude Giroux. Instead, Steve Yzerman decided to go with right winger Martin St. Louis.

That Giroux was left off the team yet again is not overly surprising, though he certainly made a strong case since the initial snub. What I did find interesting was Claude’s approach to the possibility.

“I didn’t give myself hope,” Giroux said. “I didn’t want to be disappointed again. It’s unfortunate for Steven, he worked hard to come back and wanted to try to make the team and try to play. It’s too bad to for him.”

He’s really learned from us Philly sports fans. Don’t even hope.

I get why Yzerman went this way. You go with Giroux and you might as well trade St. Louis off the Lightning later in the afternoon.

Sucks in a way for Giroux, but at the end of the day, let him take his couple of weeks to stay focused and help make this team a playoff contender.

It’s not going to matter in the end for Canada. They’re still going to be standing under either Team Sweden or Team Russia on the podium anyway.

Berube confirmed that Timonen will play tonight vs. Avalanche

    WHY? WHY? WHY? WHY? WHY?

This goes to show beyond a doubt Berube is a fucking idiot. Not even an AHL level coach. He wants to lose tonight.

Why change anything when it’s been working so well lately?

Guaranteed Flyers loss coming up tonight, folks.

If that’s true, then Timonen should sit the rest of the year then. Mez is better in every way. He’s better defensively, better offensively, better on the PP, better at winning board battles, better at the handling the puck on the blueline and actually keeping it in the offensive zone especially on the PP.

        Flyers lose tonight. Just watch.

What you’re really saying is “Flyers lose tonight specifically because Timo gives up a deciding goal or makes a bunch of bad plays”. I’ll be there, we’ll see.

Even I think this guy is nuts.

@2sentz – Something tells me #44 could have one shift all night and any loss would still be his fault according to this nut job.

It’s a shame Pronger got hurt. The Flyers could really use a solid number 2 behind Luke Schenn and ahead of Andrej Meszaros.

Berube, in an attempt to prove all of his early season critics right, tries to lose game against Colorado on purpose by playing THE ESCORT.

        So….
Let’s be careful not to proclaim any aging player as invincible, Halladay is exhibit-A that you never know when it’s ‘over’. However that said, hopefully Timmo’s roughly 200 minutes of effective play tonight (was he ever not on the ice?) buys us all about 3 weeks respite from this nonsense that he’s washed up.
        Outstanding team win tonight-

Who cares…its the Canadian team, last time I checked we reside in the United States.

Last time I checked Claude Giroux plays for the Flyers, which is indeed in the US, and he also happens to be our best player…To insinuate that this isn’t news is crazy.

G’s probably super-upset he can’t drink yellow tap water and sleep five to a bed on some grunt-laborers pillow for 3 weeks. There’s a fine line between, “What a memorable story to tell grandkids” and “Holy shit this is really just sad, bad and effed up”.

Guess they’ll be disappointed when they walk in the bathroom and see two toilets.

I’m very torn on this one. While I love the idea of Claude getting rest and playing with a chip on his shoulder the rest of the way, I can’t get that image out of my head of him sitting on the bench at the Devils rink 2 hours before gametime with that sad look on his face. He deserves to be there playing with and learning from the best in the game…and Chris Kunitz.

We can take solace in the fact that gold medal teams always have at least one flyer on them, so karma will get Yzerman, but at the end of the day Claude really got screwed here.
