If the Flyers win tonight former boxing champ Riddick Bowe is going to beat some

Where to even begin with this? There’s just so much going here.

The guys over at Broad Street Hockey had quite the exchange on twitter yesterday with former professional boxing champion Riddick Bowe, who you may remember from such matches as the “Fan Man” fight and his other bouts with Evander Holyfield.

They asked Bowe, who is apparently a huge fan of tonight’s Flyers’ opponent, the Toronto Maple Leafs, about Sean Couturier’s beard. For those not familiar with Couturier’s beard, it is reaching ridiculous caveman-like proportions because he hasn’t shaved it in months and is vowing not to shave it until the Flyers’ season is officially over.

Bowe responded by saying he’s a big fan of both Couturier’s beard and his game.

That’s pretty cool. Real recognize real, I guess. Is that what the kids say today?

More pertinent to tonight’s matchup, Bowe then continued on twitter to threaten to knock out Leafs coach Randy Carlyle if the Leafs, who come into this evening’s contest losers of six straight and in the midst of a colossal, late-season nuclear meltdown, lose to the Flyers.

In the spirit of a totally unbiased journalist, sign me up for that one. Not that it would actually happen but it still has unlimited potential entertainment value.

Truth is tonight’s game is a big game for the Flyers, too. Losers of two straight and now three points behind the New York Rangers in the chase for home ice in the opening round, the Flyers have a chance to get back on their feet against a team that’s falling off the cliff faster than Wile E. Coyote after a Road Runner prank.

At least Flyers head coach Craig Berube doesn’t have a former boxing champion breathing down his neck. That said, Berbue could probably take Bowe anyway.

Puck drops at 7 p.m. at Wells Fargo Center.
