Laviolette Fired: Flyers to introduce Craig Berube at 11 a.m. — Watch here

Oct 7, 2013, 10:43 AM EDT

source:

It took all of three games. Peter Laviolette is out as head coach of the Philadelphia Flyers.

Craig Berube will be introduced as your new head coach in a press conference at 11 a.m. You can watch that press conference right here in the video window below:

As you’ve all no doubt heard by now, Chip Kelly is the longest-tenured head coach in Philadelphia. (John Hackworth, Herb Magee, Tony Chapman, I know, I know, I know).

Just because:

Good. This guy was overrated from the start. Most coaches would have been fired immediately after the goalie carousel debacle Laviolette put the team through in the 2011 playoffs.

Not Lavy’s fault. Goalie carousel is OUR CULTURE.

Glad Peter the Pussy is gone. Hopefully the Flyers have a tougher lineup on a more consistent basis now. Also, now that Berube is coach, hopefully he chimes in to the upper brass about getting pussies like Talbot and Gustafsson out of here.

OMG too much goons! Stuck in 1970! Need a 20-goal scorer for the 4th line! Talbot is our enforcer!

Anybody who plays scott hartnell and wayne simmonds on the first team power play line should be fired. However, the fact that Homer continues to have a job is infuriating and turns lavy into somewhat of a scapegoat…and I can’t really endorse a firing after 3 games into an 82 game season, but I guess that’s a moot point now. One thing is clear, and that is Berube is not the answer so they need to figure something out and fast.

Can we get hartnell of the Giroux line yet or would we like to continue wasting his prime? Stop blindly loving this guy and watch the games. He’s a glorified third liner getting paid entirely too much money. He can’t skate, turns the puck over in the neutral zone, can’t finish, doesn’t win battles on the boards, takes bad penalties, and have I mentioned his skating ability? Wake up everybody.

Agree about Hartnell. I was a big Hartnell fan, but the extension he got last year, after what we all knew was a career year he would never replicate, was ridiculously dumb. Plus a no trade clause? For a third line goofball who has one move. And this is the winger we give Giroux as he gets ready to enter his prime? Bobby Ryan sure would look nice up there on the top line. Too bad Sean f*cking Couturier was untouchable, eh? If only Anaheim was more realistic with their outrageous demands. -_-

$6 million for Kimmo Timonen who has declined every year since we got him. Money that could have been used as an offer for any other defenseman that would have improved the defense. Not to mention the mind-blowing 4 year, $21 mil contract for Mark Streit, a week before Keith Yandle went off the market at an identical price.

The Lecavalier a goalie signings were great. Our goalie tandem has a lot of potential and only costs $3+ million. I give Homer a lot of credit for those three moves. But overall, he has made many questionable decisions and his management of the team has been subpar.

That’s why I think his leash is VERY short and Hextall may be seeing a new role sooner rather than later.

Honesty, the players quit on Lavy. From ESPN to TSN, they’re saying that since mid-last year it’s been a divided locker room with players not giving 100%. There’s no excuse now. The players love Berube. The players love Laperrière and Paddock is a sharp guy and will bring a good course of insight as assistant coaches. You’ve got enough experience and drive for the players not to perform to their abilities.

If they don’t turn it around, I think ownership already has the next phase of pieces in place.

Snider is the problem. All you have to do is watch the press conference….defensive bully a’hole who hasn’t won a Stanley Cup in 38 years. Berube looked like a deer in the headlights, tells me he will not make it.

Until Homer is fired, I’m done with this team. I hate to say it because I applaud him for all of the charity work he does, but Hartnell is not good and that career year he had would make anyone think he was on the juice if this was the MLB (obviosly, I know it’s not, but you know what I mean). The defense is really bad. Personnel decisions are ludicrous. The list goes on. The ship has not been right from the top for yeeeeeeeeeeeeears while good coaches like Lavy, Hitch, etc take the blame. That’s what has to get fixed first.

I agre with the firing. As much as I like Lavy’s attitude, he never once tried to make changes to his system to play to the strengths of his players. When the same things keep being exploited to beat you, that’s a bad coaching job.

This big fat fire-all-major-sports-coaches-in-one-year turd has been a long time coming. And all four GM’s are still firmly in fans’ crosshairs (Amaro, Roseman, Holmgren, whoever’s running the Sixers this week). Jesus today is yet another all-time low-water mark for Broad & Pat….

I’m calling this the “Curse of Xfinity Live”. Snider goes for the cash grab of building a PC metro-sexual cowboy saloon next to Eagles stadium, and this is what happens… :)

I’ve been trying to write what I feel for the last 15 minutes but nothing seems to encapsulate it all.

The construction of this team sucks.
