Miley Cyrus forced to switch Philly show dates as Flyers-Rangers take priority over Bangerz Tour

Since it was the last weekend of the regular season and playoff positioning still needed to be determined, this past weekend figured to be a pretty busy one for the Philadelphia Flyers.

It turned out to be all that and then some.

First, there was the 4-3 overtime win over the Penguins this past Saturday in Pittsburgh that clinched the third seed in the Metropolitan Division for the Flyers and locked in a first-round playoff matchup with the New York Rangers.

After Claude Giroux put the Flyers ahead with just over a minute left in regulation and Penguins defenseman Kris Letang tied it again shortly after, Flyers defenseman Mark Streit scored the overtime winner after Penguins goalie Marc-Andre Fleury showed off his playoff form by fumbling the puck into his own net.

The game also saw Flyers goalie Steve Mason leave after being ran into in his crease but he appears to be good to go for Game 1 later this week.

But the most Flyers-Penguins-like thing happened in the third period when Scott Hartnell nailed Letang, who recently returned to action after suffering a stroke, with a big hit. They both exchanged jabs and were penalized.

After the game, Penguins coach Dan Bylsma called the play “a guy picking on a guy who had a stroke.” That is an exact quote.

Flyers head coach Craig Berube responded with a wonderful trolling when he said, “Then [Letang] shouldn’t be playing. … That’s a dumb comment.”

The Penguins’ public relations staff later released a statement saying Bylsma’s quote was in “jest.”

The world totally needs Flyers-Penguins in the second round. There’s a greedy portion of me that’s just crushed we’re not getting it in the first round.

Hartnell found himself in the middle of a mess again in this past Sunday’s meaningless yet highly entertaining, 6-5 shootout loss to the Carolina Hurricanes in the regular season finale.

In the third period, a scrum ensued in front of the Carolina net and Hartnell eventually speared Carolina defenseman Brett Bellemore in the abdomen.

Hartnell received a major penalty and a game misconduct for his efforts.

It was a really dumb move, especially in a meaningless game. But to Hartnell’s defense, it was a half-hearted spear as he let go of his stick in the process. Plus, he got him in the gut and not in the man zone, if that’s any consolation.

The league decided not to suspend him and instead fine him $5,000.

Later on Sunday night, the league finally released the first-round playoff schedule.

The Flyers-Rangers series gets underway Thursday night at Madison Square Garden. The teams play again on Sunday afternoon at MSG before coming to Philadelphia on Tuesday the 22nd for Game 3.

Really hope you guys with Miley Cyrus tickets for that night at Wells Fargo Center don’t have any plans for Monday the 21st.

Miley’s Bangerz Tour -- can’t believe I just wrote that -- was scheduled for the 22nd at Wells Fargo Center but the Flyers, NHL and probably NBC took their wrecking ball (!) and pulled a power play to have the concert pushed up a day to accommodate the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

So, the lessons of the weekend: Don’t whine about a player who recently had a stroke being hit in a hockey game and then lamely attempt to cover said whining, spearing a guy with a hockey stick isn’t the best idea if you want to keep $5,000 in your wallet and Flyers playoff hockey >>> Miley Cyrus.

Now, go win at MSG.
