Ron Hextall to Rejoin Flyers as Assistant General Manager

Jul 15, 2013, 5:06 PM EDT

Ron Hextall enjoyed two stints as a goaltender for the Flyers spanning a grand total 11 of his 13 seasons in the NHL, then transitioned directly into the organization’s front office where he remained until 2006. Apparently that was far too long away from Philadelphia, as the team announced on Monday that Hexy is coming back for a third run with the Orange & Black.

The Flyers have tabbed Hextall for an Assistant GM position as well as Director of Hockey Operations position beginning on August 1. He departs the Los Angeles Kings, where he held the title of Assistant GM since 2006 and helped the organization win the Stanley Cup in 2012.

As of now Hextall would join Barry Hanrahan and John Paddock as fellow Assistant GMs according to the team website, provided another move is not on the way. It’s unclear what will happen to Chris Pryor, the club’s current Director of Hockey Ops. Lots of confusion over the exact details at the moment.

Either way it seems like a great move for the Flyers. There’s no denying success has followed Hexy as an executive, from his early days as a scout for the Flyers, later their Director of Pro Personnel, and then to LA obviously. Not surprisingly there are already some rumblings that he could eventually become the club’s next general manager. Great to have him back in the fold.

Awesome to have my favorite player ever back with the team. This is the perfect front office pickup… Snider gets his ex-player while the team gets somebody with outside training/experience and proven success. I could not be happier.

Great. Another washed up goon who never won a cup with this team is going to get his shot to run it into the ground. Another terrible move from a money grubbing organization.

Money grubbing? Name me one year the Flyers have skimped on talent to save a buck. Once.

Money grubbing as in theyll sign any flashy name they can to draw in more money you dumb bastard. Keep drinking the kool aid while the rest of us live in reality and deal with the fact that tthis team is years away from a cup.

You know what? You’re exactly right, Dale. The franchise with the most wins of any team not in the Original 6 and the second best all-time winning percentage just isn’t trying. 2 Stanley Cups, 8 Conference Championships, and 16 Division Titles really all mean nothing and just show how money-hungry Ed Snider really is.

And this business of signing of a guy who helped form a Stanley Cup winning team while building one of the most successful AHL affiliates in hockey is just The.Last.Straw. We shouldn’t stand for it. When are we storming the WFC?

Yes because fans will flock to the arena with their wallets held wide open for the simple fact that hextall is a memeber of the front office ???…give me a break if that’s your idea of a “flashy signing” to draw people in then you are the dumb bastard … Its more likely that since he did well here in the past and recently won a cup with another team that the flyers are happy to have him back .. now back to moms basement with you
