Reminder: Day-Night Double-Header at the Palestra TODAY

Jan 20, 2012, 3:18 PM EDT

The Temple Owls and Maryland Terrapins kick-off the first leg of a Palestra double-header on Saturday at 11 a.m. St. Joe's and Penn will meet in the night cap at 7 p.m.

It might not be exactly like “old times,” but, hey, we’ll take it.

The Temple University Owls will meet the Maryland Terrapins from inside The Cathedral of College Basketball at 11 a.m. Saturday morning (ESPN U / 1210 AM). The game is the second leg of a two-game neutral site agreement between the Owls and Terps. Last season, Temple defeated Maryland in a Dec. 5 matchup at the Verizon Center in Washington D.C. by a final score of 64-61. Temple senior center Micheal Eric’s status is still unknown, though he is reportedly close to returning from a patella injury that has sidelined him for the last eight weeks.

At night, it’s a Big 5 showdown between the Saint Joseph’s Hawks and the University of Pennsylvania Quakers at 7 p.m. (610 AM). For St. Joe’s, the matchup with Penn will be about plugging the holes in their leaking ship. After starting out hot, upsetting Creighton and pummeling Villanova, the Hawks have gone just 2-3 since Dec. 31 and have lost three of their last four. The team was without leading scorer Carl Jones in their loss to Xavier on Wednesday and could be without him again against the Quakers. Saturday night will be an important game for the Hawks, who will desperately need the win before embarking on a five-game swing that will see them take on the class of this year’s Atlantic 10 in Dayton, Temple, Richmond, La Salle and St. Louis.

Anyone planning to brave the elements (Are the lines at Acme starting to back up yet?) to take in one or both of the games at the Palestra today? Be safe guys.
