    Dec 20, 2005, 10:41 AM EDT

Not the game… Practice.  (longer version here) With the Sixers season starting up in just about 10 days coupled with the lack of intersting sports news today, I thought we could all use a little practice. >>Full transcript of the press conference [SI.com] Ad:

  2. WATN: Endy Chavez & Scott Rolen

    Dec 20, 2005, 12:45 AM EDT

Yahoo Photos A couple of ex-Phillies rubbed shoulders last night.  While Endy Chavez’s simply amazing catch prevented a Scott Rolen home run, Rolen’s Cardinals took the series and earned the trip to play Detroit in the World Series.  It was a fun game to watch.  I’m glad I’m not a Mets fan today. I’m looking…

    Dec 20, 2005, 12:05 AM EDT

Bill Giles was the "honorary National League Commissioner" or something to that affect last night in New York.  He presented the Cardinals with the Warren C. Giles trophy which is named after Bill’s father.  The trophy is awarded to the National League Championship Series winner. >>Warren Giles [Wikipedia]>>Giles and Vet go hand and hand [Phillies.com]

  4. Game 7: Delirium or Denouement

    Dec 19, 2005, 5:02 PM EDT

The following is an email I just received from my buddy Chris.  He’s a Mets fan.  I’m posting it here, with his permission, because I thought some of you would enjoy it.  (I’m pulling for the Mets) October 16th, 2003 October 20th, 2004   Those two dates represent that last two times that a game…

  5. Is there a Ralph’s Around Here?

    Dec 19, 2005, 11:59 AM EDT

I’d settle for a coffee can: Starting next season, fans of the New York Yankees, Boston Red Sox, Detroit Tigers, Philadelphia Phillies, Chicago Cubs and Los Angeles Dodgers will be able to have a casket or cremation urn emblazoned with their team colors and insignia.

  6. Cheesesteak Wars

    Dec 19, 2005, 9:26 AM EDT

The lede in this story is awesome: PHILADELPHIA (AP) — The battle for cheesesteak supremacy — usually fought with beef, onions and cheese — has moved out of the kitchen and into the courthouse. Pat’s King of Steaks, a South Philadelphia institution since the 1930s, is suing Rick’s Steaks for trademark infringement. Rick’s Steaks took…

  7. Joe Morgan 1984 Topps

    Dec 18, 2005, 12:11 PM EDT

A new weekly feature every Wednesday here at The 700 Level: card of the week. This week, Joe Morgan. Perhaps I’m pointing out my own ignorance on this one, but I didn’t know Joe Morgan played for the Phillies.  Alas, on my recent trip to the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum I picked…

  8. Random Thought of the Day

    Dec 18, 2005, 9:27 AM EDT

Scoring 9 goals in a hockey game is a lot.  The Flyers must be pretty shitty this year.  I like that Hitchcock guy though.  He makes for a good interview, unlike Andy Reid.  You know what they say, "If you’re going to let a team score 9 goals on you, at least give a good…

  9. The End of PRISM

    Dec 18, 2005, 12:14 AM EDT

"Everybody in Philadelphia loves this kid. They love the way he plays the game.  They love the way he handles himself.  There’s nothing to not like about Scott Rolen.  He’s going to be something special around here for a long, long time." I’m pretty sure Scott Rolen is playing in the post season right now…

  10. Random Thought of the Day

    Dec 17, 2005, 11:55 AM EDT

Every time I think it’s hard to be an Eagles fan, I have to remember that I could be an Arizona Cardinals fan. -Loyal Reader

  11. Phillies Hire Coaches

    Dec 17, 2005, 9:13 AM EDT

Some Phillies notes: Obviously, the Phillies missed out on a great coach in Jim Leyland. [Attytood] The Phillies filled in their 3 vacant coaching positions with guys who have all been major league managers.  The combined age of the 3 guys is 183.  Beerleaguer breaks down their bios. [Beerleaguer] Pat Gillick has made it clear…
