A Perfect Night for Fans of Pitching: Halladay vs. Johnson in Florida

Share

It's appointment television this evening for Phillies fans and baseball fans in general as not one but two pitchers at the top of their craft in Roy Halladay and Josh Johnson will faceoff in a rematch of that historic perfect game last season. Even in that loss, Johnson had stifled the Phillies' bats and went on to beat them just a few weeks later.

This pitching duel is about as hyped up as they get, reaching similar levels to last year's NLCS duel of Doc and Tim Lincecum. Will we get a quick and clean two hour affair or will the baseball gods throw us something unexpected?

Halladay (5-1, 2.19) enters tonight's game having won a remarkable 13-straight starts against NL East opponents. That doesn't happen without support from your offense which will have their hands full tonight while facing Johnson (3-1, 1.68) who has the second best WAR for Pitchers in the NL at 1.8 behind only Doc's 2.0.

Tonight's lineup features Jimmy Rollins at the top of the order once again. Jimmy moved into 5th all time last night on the list of most career leadoff home runs with his 36th leadoff longball. J-Roll will be followed by Shane, Polly, Howard, Ibanez, Francisco, Orr, Sardinha, and Halladay.

First pitch scheduled for 7:10. Should be fun to watch.

As mentioned earlier today, Chase will see some live baseball tonight in a game in Clearwater. Baby steps.
