And Now the Phillies Are Without Erik Kratz

So let's recap the weekend for the Phillies: They lost Friday night, they lost Saturday night, and they lost on Sunday. Oh, and they also lost Erik Kratz to the DL with an unspecified knee injury that could sideline him for who knows how long. The Phillies will now roll with a catching duo of Humberto Quintero and Steven Lerud.

Their above-500 record and second place standing didn't even last a week.

So, pretty good weekend.

The team also said that they will not use Kratz' unfortunate circumstance to rush Chooch back from his hammy injury:

“We’re not speeding him up,” GM Ruben Amaro Jr. said. “Hopefully he’ll be ready in a week to 10 days, but we’re not speeding him up.”

The Phils have struggled to remain in the NL East conversation when they have had Kratz and Ruiz in the lineup, so the Quintero and Lerud duo over the next week or so should simply add another wrinkle.

Kratz will have his knee examined today to see what kind of injury we're dealing with. It didn't sound good though as he was reportedly on crutches over the weekend.
