Cole Hamels Takes On Chris Volstad Again, Phils Hope for Similar Results

Share

Phillies fans should be hoping for a repeat of the last time Cole Hamels took on Chris Volstad and the Marlins back on June 14th. The Phillies ace went seven strong innings giving up only one run while Volstad was rocked to the tune of eight runs over 5.2 innings of work. The Fightins won that one going away.

Over the last few weeks, however, things have changed a bit. Cole Hamels is making his first start since getting beaned hard in his glove hand against the Red Sox and Chris Volstad has been fantastic in his three starts since getting bombed by the Phils (2-0, 1.31 ERA).

While John Mayberry Jr. was brought up from Lehigh Valley this afternoon, he will not get the start in center field. That job goes to Michael Martinez once again this evening who will bat second for the Phils.

From the Notes: Elias says Vance Worley has an ERA of 0.72 (2 ER, 25.0 IP) over his last four starts (Phils are 4-0), which is the lowest in the NL over the period from Flag Day to Independence Day. The dude just loves Betsy Ross.

First pitch tonight scheduled for 7:10 pm. The Phils are 20-4 over their last 24 games in Miami.
