Dom Brown Sent to Triple-A Lehigh Valley

Jul 30, 2011, 3:12 PM EDT

In order to make room for newest Phillie Hunter Pence, Dom Brown has been optioned to Lehigh Valley.

Phillies fans on Friday were hoping, in the case of some even praying, that Dom Brown would be on the team after Ruben Amaro made his big deadline deal to land a right-handed bat. Well, as of today, Dom Brown is not currently on the Phillies 25-man roster.

But he still remains in the organization. Brown has been optioned to Triple-A Lehigh Valley to make room for Hunter Pence. Brown will be in the IronPigs lineup tonight and play left field, according to beat writer Matt Gelb. It’s a move that’s tough to argue with. (Unless you argue Ben Francisco shouldn’t be on the Phillies at all) Brown will get a bit more “seasoning” against minor league pitching while getting a chance to play everyday.

Expect to see him back with the big club once rosters expand in September.
