Game Chat: Lerud Is the New Kratz; Also, Please Beat the Mets

Share

I don't want to say the Phillies are giving up exactly, but Ty Wigginton is your left fielder, Michael Martinez is your right fielder, and a guy name Steven Lerud is making his big league debut behind the dish. You can only Kratz so hard before you need a breather, especially on a day game following a night game. It's Lerud's time.
1:05 start time this afternoon from CBP. Prob need some sunscreen if you're down at the ball park as it's a great day in Philadelphia.

Now, I've pretty much abandoned all hope of a postseason berth, but please -- PLEASE! -- do not get swept by the New York Mets. We've been kicked down enough pegs already in 2012.

Today's pitching matchup pits Kyle Kendrick (7-9, 4.12) against left-hander Jonathon Niese (10-7, 3.51). KK had his scoreless-innings streak snapped in his last outing against the Nationals but he still put in a real solid effort: 6.2 IP, 4 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 3 Ks. He's won each of his last three starts which is his longest winning streak since 2009.

One other note: Cole Hamels is back with the team today and says he will pitch on Sunday against the Braves in Atlanta. (source)
