Oswalt Returns, Would Like to Throw 10 Shutouts in a Row

The Fightin' Phils have won nine straight games and currently hold the best record in all of baseball.

Today, those same Phillies will add Roy Oswalt into the mix. Not too shabby of a post-deadline addition, eh? Lil Roy is ready to get out of the dugout and onto the field. Jim Salisbury has more on Oswalt's return.

“I’m tired of watching and ready to be part of it, for sure,” said the
righthander, out since June 23 with a bulging disc in his lower back.

“It should be fun. I’d like to throw 10 shutouts in a row. I don’t know if it will happen, but I’m going to try.”

Oswalt has said he's felt great with no pain on the mound, something he hasn't been afforded since back in spring training. A healthy and effective Oswalt added to the Phillies could send opposing teams into the fetal position down the stretch run.

A win this afternoon would give the Phillies an amazing 10th straight victory, but they'll have to beat Tim Lincecum to get there (9-9, 2.77). Lincecum held them mostly in check when they met in Philly 10 days ago -- 3 hits with no runs over six innings of work.

Charlie's lineup: Rollins, Victorino, Utley, Howard, Pence, Ibanez, Ruiz, Martinez (3B), and Roy Oswalt.

It's a beautiful day for a sweep in San Francisco.

First pitch set for 4:05 EST.

Placido Polanco has been sent back to Philadelphia to get an MRI on his hurtin' hip.

From the Game Notes: Today's game in San Fran will be the 17th of a 20-games-in-20-days stretch for the Fightins. Thus far on that stretch they've gone 13-3. Boss. They finish out this run in L.A. starting on Monday before getting a much-deserved off day on Thursday.
