Phils Sign Joel Pineiro to Minor League Deal

With the Eagles out of the playoffs, and the Flyers and Sixers both enjoying a rare day off, we're here to update you on the riveting world of off-season minor league baseball acquisitions.

The Phillies signed veteran starter Joel Pineiro to a minor league contract on Sunday and have invited the 33-year-old to, as Jim Salisbury put it, "big-league spring training camp."

From Salisbury:

"Pineiro, 33, is 104-93 with a 4.41 ERA in 12 big-league seasons. He was 7-7 with a 5.13 ERA in 27 games, 24 starts, with the Los Angeles Angels last season.

"Pineiro is one of a number of veteran pitchers that will be in camp on
non-roster deals. The others: Dave Bush, Scott Elarton, Pat Misch, David
Purcey, Brian Sanches and Raul Valdes."

I don't know about you, but I've always been a HUGE Brian Sanches guy (find that sentence anywhere else).

34 more days 'til pitchers and catchers.
