Rumblings: Mike Adams Watch In Full Effect

Jul 25, 2011, 7:11 PM EDT

After pitching well against the Phillies on Monday afternoon, rumblings about Padres setup man Mike Adams gain some momentum.

Mike Adams was one of the first names to pop up on the Phillies rumor radar this trading season and after pitching well against the heart of the Fightins’ lineup on Monday, those rumblings have heated up.

First, CSNPhilly.com’s Jim Salisbury writes that Adams and his impressive slider are coveted by Phillies officials:

Adams was an interesting side note because Phillies officials covet him
and, according to sources, still haven’t given up trying to acquire him
before Sunday’s non-waiver trade deadline. Even adding a healthy and
effective Lidge to the late-innings team of Antonio Bastardo, Mike
Stutes and Ryan Madson, might not stop Phils officials from continuing
their pursuit of Adams. Madson will be a free agent at season’s end, and
Adams, who is under control for 2012, could be a possible replacement
at closer. In other words, he’d help now and in the future, and that’s
always been the Phillies’ style when pondering and making deals.

And to add to that, the New York Post’s Joel Sherman tweeted this today as well:

aggressive on Bell, Adams. surprised little interest from , also not more push from

Sherman certainly enjoys his hash.

Any Phillies fan would have to love the idea of Adams pitching for a World Series contender in Philadelphia, but a follow up question is obviously at what cost?
