Video: Roy Halladay Mentions Commitment Issues from Phillies Players During Charlie Manuel's Final Time

Share

Perhaps he chose to speak a little more freely since he wasn't with the rest of the club or in the direct proximity of Charlie Manuel, but Roy Halladay said some of the more interesting things by anyone on his the former skipper's final Phillies team. It took place after Roy's rehab start last night up in Lakewood. You can read more on that mediocre outing here.

Charlie and Doc in better times

Halladay starts of saying he's exchanged texsts with Charlie and loved him but also that Ryne came right in and addressed some issues that were being overlooked.

"I think that Ryne is going to do a good job and bring back a little more of the Philly baseball style than we've had the last few years," Halladay said.

"We haven't really had that whole team effort and whole team hustle that we've had the last few years."

He then goes on to mention guys not showing up on time, guys not taking extra batting practice or extra grounders, etc.

It's the first I've heard of any of this and certainly adds a different angle to Charlie's departure and its timing.

In a clubhouse with guys like Chase Utley and Roy Halladay, I find it a bit surprising to hear about guys not putting in maximum effort to be on time, prepared, and to take every measure they can to be in a position to win. I'd love to hear more specifics about these issues Doc mentioned above.
