Video: That Time Pedro Martinez Charged the Mound, Threw Helmet at Phillies Pitcher Mike Williams

May 2, 2013, 12:57 PM EDT

Apropos of nothing, here’s an old video posted by MLB of Pedro Martinez, then pitching for the Montreal Expos (RIP), charging the mound and throwing his helmet at Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Mike Williams back in September of 1996.

I stumbled upon this gem yesterday and figured it’d be unbloggerly of me not to share with the rest of you.

Not going to lie, I kind of love Pedro Martinez’s staredown after the first pitch misses his knees. The throwing of the helmet though? Not so sure about that.

Still, Pedro Martinez was a badass. Imagine how the Internet would react today to a guy tossing his helmet at another player like this. Getting hit with a helmet thrown by a guy with an arm like Pedro can’t feel good.

And how about the Gregg Jefferies sighting?

For our old one-on-one interview with Pedro Martinez, click here. Miss you, Pedro.

Excellent piece of Baseball ettiqutte you posted. Let’s not forget Martinez plunking Jeffries earlier in this game was the red hot catalyst starting this mound charging.
The boys of summer will be boys. And I think Williams is part of your Bad ass lineup as well. He had his player’s back when he suddenly lost control of those 2 fastballs.
