20202020=MVP

We're not done celebrating the Phillies' 2007 division win yet, and I still can't get over the impact Jimmy Rollins made today, as he did all season... I think we can all agree that JRoll has carried this team through some pretty rough times; when key teammates were hurt or slumping for significant stretches, he was almost always on.

Every year there is a lot of discussion about what makes a player the MVP... Did his team make the playoffs? Was he just part of a great overall squad all year? Was he durable? How was his defense? When Jimmy locked up a historic feat in amassing 20 homers, RBIs, steals, and triples this season, including a triple and 2 steals in the game that clinched a division win and playoff birth in his 162nd game of the season, also setting the Major League record for at bats and plate appearances, I hope he made it impossible to vote for anyone else. Sure Matt Holliday is great too, but JRoll's resume also boasts Gold Glove-caliber shortstop play, and we may see back-to-back MVPs in Philly when this is all said and done.

And isn't all just a little sweeter that he called it in the pre-season, dealt with the Mets' derision, then stuck it to them when the whole country was watching?

Here's the pic the nation will see at ESPN.com tonight:
