A Closer Look at Flyers Goalie Prospect Sergei Bobrovsky

I was interested to learn a few days ago that Dmitry Chesnokov would be putting together a piece on Flyers goaltending prospect Sergei Bobrovsky for CSNPhilly.com. First, I've enjoyed the angles Chesnokov has been able to uniquely provide on Russian players in the NHL, mostly reading his work at Yahoo's Puck Daddy. For instance, in July, Chesnokov was the first to share the story that the Flyers would be signing Nik Zherdev. Due to the language barrier, it can be tough for North American journalists to get the same level of communication with many of the league's Russian players, but as you can see in his work at Puck Daddy, many Russians also genuinely seem to enjoy talking to Chesnokov.

Sergei Bobrovsky is a name many casual Flyers fans may not know to well just yet, but that could change quickly. The 22-year-old netminder is a possible answer for the Flyers' annual goaltending questions, but he is still somewhat raw and only beginning the learning curve of the North American style of hockey. [Note: Now is a good time to start getting our nicknames ready. The players will probably settle on "Bobby" as they are wont to add -y to everything and call it a day. I'm thinking Sergei Bob Loblaw but taking suggestions.] Chesnokov's look at Bobrovsky gives some interesting background on the player, as well as a report on how he fared in his first "NHL" action this past week in the Flyers-Capitals prospect game. A must read for Flyers fans.
