A Welcomed Off Day for the Phillies

After a nice 5-1 victory over the Red Sox on Friday night to kick off the weekend for the Phils, the remaining two games were not as kind to them. There was not a lot to cheer about on Saturday night or Sunday afternoon for Phils' fans.

You know things aren't exactly going well when the most excited the ball park got on Saturday was when Juan Castro blooped a single that fell just out of the reach of Marco Scutaro to break up Dice-K's no-hit bid. I'm not sure, but Sunday's Red Sox undressing of Roy Halladay could have been even worse. About the only excitement Phils fans got out of that one was seeing the Red Sox shutout get erased in the ninth inning.

It was an ugly two days at Citizens Bank Park to say the least.

The big story on Sunday, of course, was Roy Halladay's wretched performance that just so happened to follow the start in which he pitched a season-high 132 pitches. This quickly led to speculation that his last outing had something to do with the way he pitched on Sunday.

I'd lean towards the side that believes the one has little to do with the other. However, I do not think Roy is indefatigable and that Charlie should try and take the foot off the gas sometimes as he appeared to do on Sunday once this one looked out of reach.

Once again, Roy said he was not too concerned about his workload, "From the horse's mouth, it didn't affect me." [video below]

One thing we do know for sure is that Roy Halladay believes that outings like Sunday's are a part of the game and something that all pitchers have to deal with. You may recall Doc's saying, "a starter is assured five good and five bad starts ... it’s what he does
in the other 25 which determines how good he is."

Chalk this one up to one of the five bad starts.
