Briere's Return Near, Roster Moves to Come

Share

We've discussed it before, but now that Danny Briere is just about ready to return, the Flyers are facing some tough decisions. Lasse Kukkonen has already been placed on waivers, but that alone won't be enough to accommodate Danny's cap room. Luca Sbisa could be the next to go, finally making his way to Juniors.

The Flyers have a logjam at defense since the return of Randy Jones.
Sbisa, who made the team out of camp because of injuries, has been the
odd man out. He has been used as a forward, and was a healthy scratch
again last night in the 3-1 win over Minnesota.

We'd miss Luca of course, but sending an 18-year-old to Juniors is hardly detrimental to his development. The other option would be a trade, but nothing is imminent at the moment, and Ed Moran says the Flyers would like to avoid a trade if at all possible. Considering it's a salary cap concern and not a positional need—and the Flyers happen to be doing fairly well right now—they'd rather maintain their depth than deal it away. We'll just have to wait and see how Homer pulls it off.
