Eagles Defensive Backfield Thins as Hood Leaves for Arizona

Roderick Hood, who has been a solid backup for the Eagles at DB, signed a five-year deal with the Cardinals today. Barring a long-term injury to Lito Sheppard or Sheldon Brown, Hood wasn't going to start in Philly, but his play filling in for the starters earned him some decent interest around the league to contend for a starting role. Anticipation of Hood's departure for greener pastures probably led to the Eagles signing of Will James to a one-year contract yesterday.

The depth provided by Hood will be missed. With James injured more often than not, he' isn't a very reliable backup should Lito or Sheldon go down this season. He's got potential though, and the Birds couldn't afford to give Hood the raise he's earned.

Rumblings: Talks are heating up between Donte' Stallworth and the Dolphins, who are looking for an upgrade at WR after a disappointing season from Chris Chambers and especially Marty Booker.  The Eagles are interested in Kevin Curtis, but so is a quarter of the league. Curtis has a list of expectations that may exceed his value though, stating that he wants to start for a warm-weather playoff contender despite meeting with the Birds and Giants.
