Finishing Strong: Is It Really Important?

Share

Bob Brookover has a piece today in the Inquirer that says, at this point, finishing strong is the number one goal for the Eagles.  It got me to wondering if that really is the case?  Does winning two games to end your lackluster season really carry over into the following year?  Is it really something a team can build on?  These guys are supposed to be professionals.  Come 2008 they should have a winning attitude regardless of anything they did in '07.  Is winning out just an ego boost for when they're reflecting on the year?  "We struggled but in the end we showed some promise."

I don't see myself rooting for the Eagles to lose in the coming weeks.
This isn't the Sixers after all.  But at the same time, I certainly
won't be shedding any tears about moving up a slot or two in the coming
draft were they to drop a game to New Orleans or Buffalo -- not that
anybody has much faith in Big Red getting an impact player via the
draft route.

Andy Reid has made it clear that, as usual, Kevin Kolb will be the
third string quarterback on Sunday. I don't really have a problem with
that although I would prefer to see Kolb get a series or two before the
year is out.  We never really touched on the Pam Oliver bit here at the Level much, mostly because it seemed like a non-story of he said/she said.

Donovan may have implied he thinks he's on his way out.  Whatever.  He
may be.  So what's the big deal?  I don't think Donovan's tenure as an
Eagle should be over.  It's taken all season for Five to regain his
legs and he showed against the Cowboys that he can still use them
rather well.

The Birds play their final two games of the season in the coming
weeks.  It shouldn't be the last time we see Donovan McNabb wearing an
Eagles jersey.
