Flyers Finally Back in Action, Hosting Sabres

Anyone else tired of this Flyers schedule yet? Back-to-back weekend games, then three days off... One game is not enough to get me through the work week, schedule monkeys.

At least the Flyers will be rested, because tonight begins a trio of fairly tough matchups, hosting the Sabres and the Pens on Saturday, and then heading to DC to play the Caps on Tuesday. The Flyers seem to be pretty well on track right now, winning four of their last five, with each goalie earning a strong pair of wins. As usual in Philly, there's no shortage of goalie controversy talk, which breeds the annual discussion that the Flyers just never have that dominant #1 goalie. I couldn't agree more, but I'd still be surprised if they make a move for a goalie before the trade deadline. Then again, this a team known for surprising deals.

For now, with tandems all the rage in the NHL, we can be glad that both of our netminders are at the very least pretty good. Whether they'll be good enough to take the Flyers to a Stanley Cup will probably rest on fortune—that is, whether one of the two can get on a hot streak that lasts the entire playoffs.

As of this posting, there is no word yet on who will be in the Flyers' crease tonight. The smart money is on former Sabre Marty Biron, who posted back to back great games against the other two teams from New York this past weekend. He's had plenty of time to rest since then, and although Niitty's back with the team, he did miss some time with the flu. The more rest, the better.

Opposing Players to Watch: Derek Roy is one of two Sabres with 20 or more goals, and he also leads the team in points (52). The other is Thomas Vanek, who has been keeping pace with Jeff Carter in the goal-scoring department all season. However, Vanek hasn't played since February 7 and could be out for more than a month with a fractured jaw...   Ryan Miller is known for keeping his goal fairly well, and this season's been no different, with a 2.51 GAA...   Buffalo beat writer Mike Harrington is looking for a big night from Daniel Paille, who has had a disappointing season, but has recently showed signs of life
