Football Food For Fans ~ Week 3, 2008, originally uploaded by Mark K_NJ

Our man in the kitchen, Mark, is back back with his own take on perhaps Pittsburgh's most famous sandwich complete with (Trent) cole slaw.

Mark keeps upping the ante with his delicious concoctions. This week, in addition to telling us about his sandwich and brew, he shares some of his history as a Pittsburgh hater. Well done.

He writes:

Primanti Brothers Restaurant is well-known sandwich place in the city. As their menu states "All sandwiches are topped with cole slaw, tomatoes and french fries." Hmmm...very unique.

So for today's game, I did a version of a Primanti Brothers sandwich:
On a grilled Portugese roll, I went with hot pastrami, melted Swiss,
Kosciuszko mustard, (Trent) cole slaw with a homemade dressing and
baked shoestring french fries (I held the tomatoe). On the side, some
homemade macaronni and cheese (using yellow sharp cheddar, white sharp
cheddar and grated romano cheese) in which I tossed some crispy
panchetta.

The Brothers Primanti might want to consider adding this combo. This was pretty damn good.

Oh...and in the glass, a nod to my personal history. I went to college
in Philadelphia and ended up living in the city for about 10 years.
After college, one year in an apartment in West Philly and the rest of
the time, in a rowhouse deep in the heart of South Philly (7th &
Sears). A redbrick rowhouse. So when I found the Philadelphia Brewing Company's
Rowhouse Red Ale in my local shop this week, I knew I had to have it
for this game. Mighty good beer, and it went perfectly with the
sandwich.

Thanks to Mark as always and you can read the rest of his description here.
