Ghost Report: Murray Impressed by Gostisbehere's Adirondack Debut

In case you missed it (or were busy wallowing in the Flyers playoff defeat to to the New York Rangers), organizational godsend defensive prospect, Shayne Gostisbehere, made his professional debut with the Adirondack Phantoms on Friday.

Head coach Terry Murray was impressed.

"The Ghost shows a lot of high-end skill, very mobile, a lot of agility and vision on the ice," Murray told Diana Nearhos of The Post Star. "He's not only a double-option, he's a triple-option playmaker and that's pretty special when you have that kind of player."

Although Gostisbehere made a mental mistake on the power play, allowing Scooter Vaughan behind him for the Bridgeport Sound Tigers’ first goal, Murray didn’t hesitate to rely on his new weapon during 4-on-4 overtime with the contest on the line.

"I liked his game," Murray said. "When you're getting into overtime, you got four-on-four hockey, lot's of open ice. There's an opportunity for him to do the things he does well with the puck and that's make plays, carry the puck, be creative.

"I love that kind of player. I think he's going to make good offensive plays for the team."

Gostisbehere, who is fresh off a national championship run with Union College and admitted to feeling sluggish, played on the top defensive pairing with Brandon Manning. He finished with three shots in the Phantoms’ 3-2 overtime loss.

"Some little things I would do in college wouldn't work, per se,” he said, “but I just adjusted and played my game."

Friday was a solid first step for Gostisbehere, who will face the Hershey Bears on Saturday night in the Phantoms’ season finale.
