Holmgren Paints a ‘Glum' Picture of Briere's Injured Groin

As a quick update to the original post last night regarding Daniel Briere's reinjured groin, Sam Carchidi says GM Paul Holmgren "painted a glum picture" after the game. Video of Holmgren speaking below.

Holmgren said the injury may have occurred when Briere was tied up
in the corner early in the second period, and added that "there was a
little bit of a bubble of blood in there."

"Right now, all we know is that he tweaked his groin again and we'll
see how it is [today]," a somber Holmgren said. "He's having a little
tough time right now, probably as much mentally as physically."

Briere going down is exactly the kind of news Flyers fans didn't want to hear only a day after a trade deadline that left many unhappy with the results. Holmgren was asked if the injury is particularly tough to swallow given the timing of it but he says he hasn't even thought of it like that and is more concerned with how Danny is dealing with it.

When asked if this was a long term fear in terms of the rest of the regular season, Holmgren says he doesn't want to speculate.
