Jeremy Maclin speaks out on state of contract negotiations with Eagles

For the record, any talk of Jeremy Maclin’s time with the Philadelphia Eagles coming to a close is premature.

A report surfaced last week that the New York Jets could have interest in the wide receiver, and the fact that he is still without a new deal from the Birds less than a month before free agency only adds to the speculation. However, when the Inquirer’s Zach Berman caught up with Maclin over the weekend, he sounded upbeat about his chances to remain in Philly.

"I’ve always stated, this is where I want to be. The Eagles have stated the same thing," Maclin said Saturday morning at the NovaCare Complex before the Philadelphia Soul tryouts. "We’ll continue to get on the same page with all that and get something done.”

The fact that the Jets may have interest in Maclin is almost irrelevant at this point. The truth is, they’re one of many organizations likely to kick the tires on the 19th overall selection from the 2009 draft. However, teams can’t speak to prospective free agents until March 8, and the market doesn’t officially open until March 11.

Maclin could strike a pact with the Eagles well before then.

A cryptic Tweet from Maclin last week only added fuel to the fire, but clearly the two sides are still negotiating.

Some would suggest Maclin is a player the Eagles absolutely must re-sign this offseason.

Maclin also touched on his rehab for Berman’s story, as well as spoke somewhat extensively on NFL draft prospect Michael Sam.
