Just an Old Man Making History

With his 2-hitter on Friday night in Philadelphia, 47-year-old Jamie Moyer became the oldest pitcher in the history of Major League Baseball to record a complete game shutout.

Moyer would get plenty more run support than he needed, too. The Phils' bats hung seven runs on the Braves, three of which came on a BOMB by Jayson Werth.

If you're a Braves hater, and if you're reading this blog, you've probably developed a certain animosity toward Atlanta over the course of your life, it's hard not to enjoy seeing them struggle right now. Last night, Scott Olsen of the Nats took Atlanta to within five outs of a no-hitter. They reacted like a poorly coached little league team, disrespecting Olsen's effort. Not that we've never disrespected Scott Olsen... They probably don't think Moyer has "no-hit stuff" either. Tonight, all he needed was two-hit stuff.

Great signs of life from a Phillies rotation that has been maligned early on this season. Moyer joins Cole Hamels and Kyle Kendrick in snapping out of a mini-funk this week, adding to a good first start of the season for Joe Blanton and the reliably accurate coding of Roy Halladay's CPU.

It also appears that Moyer may be transitioning his NL East domination account from the Marlins to the Braves. In two starts against Atlanta, he hasn't allowed an earned run. He faced just one batter more than the minimum Friday night, striking out five and walking none.

I wish.
