Luke Schenn tosses Dan Carcillo like a rag doll and more video and images from a chippy Flyers loss in NY

The New York Rangers may have won their battle against the Philadelphia Flyers at Madison Square Garden on Sunday night, but as is usually the case in this storied rivalry, it just set the tone for the next meeting.

The Rags jumped all over the Flyers, potting three goals in the game’s opening 10 minutes, and would go on to prevail 4-1. Henrik Lundqvist stopped 37 of 38 shots to earn first star, as it was just one of those nights for the orange and black. In all honesty, they were probably due for a lousy performance.

The Bullies did not take the loss in stride though. Both of the Schenns got into fights—Luke versus Dan Carcillo, Brayden against John Moore—while Wayne Simmonds also earned a misconduct penalty for his participation in a skirmish in the closing seconds, which you can view below.

I’m not sure how much damage was done by Brayden’s noogie-jabs to the back of Moore’s head, but that didn’t detract from the entertainment any.

Luke’s brawl with Carcillo was feisty as well. As good as the video is though, be sure to check out the images at the bottom. The big defenseman flings the ex-Flyer through the air a couple of times during the encounter, which the photographer captured beautifully.

The Flyers and Rangers meet again in South Philly matinee on March 1, followed a few weeks later by the series finale on March 26 at MSG.

can’t believe I forgot Carcillo’s neck jackknife in a scrum. That sloppy punchin’ bag is on his 3rd team in a year

God I hate Dan Carcillo…probably less now tho considering we dont have to deal with his untimely fights and penalties and overall terrible hockey abilities.

Man, the Flyers are playing some crap hockey right now. First the miserable loss against Tampa and now this uninspired garbage against New York. Two teams we could’ve gained some ground on in the standings against, and two games they royally crapped the bed against. Hope tomorrow’s game they turn it around.

Crap hockey? They just went 5 and 1 on a brutal road trip, there was bound to be a let up at some point. they’re 7-3 in their last 10. Can’t win every game….

I really wish Emery gave Lundqvist the same treatment he gave to Braden Holtby, that would have been awesome. It would have been even more awesome to hear the pussy blueskirt fans whine and cry about it.

Didn’t the league already put in a new ‘Emery Rule’? Invisible doggie fence at the red line and metal collars on goalies or something? Anyway it’s not as easy as it was, that’s what I’m tryin to say.

No new rule, 2sentz. That was a reactionary rumor meant to appease the bloodthirsty PC media and anti-fight crowd who shit themselves when there’s a good ole fashioned brawl.

The Flyers should be ashamed of themselves, they lost to a team full of faggots backed up by the dumbest fanbase in the NHL.

Yea, those Rangers fans are morons. They keep selling out all of their home games even though the Rangers haven’t won a Cup in like 20 years. They have had a few good playoff runs here and there. But the team shows no patience and keeps trading away good young players while signing big name free agents that never pan out. Meanwhile the Devils just keep winning Cup after Cup right in front of the Rangers fans. A real slap in the face. But then the Rangers fans run out and buy the $150 jersey of whichever washed up free agents the Rangers sign. What a bunch of maroons!

The blueskirts fans are by far and away the most uneducated hockey fans in the entire NHL, despite being an original six team. Have any of you ever been to MSG for a blueskirts game?

        @TartanSixNine

You have no idea how hard it was to type that comment without accidentally typing “Flyers”. I double checked it like 4 times.

I’m not laughing at Carcillo at all…He took three players completely off their game last night. Wayne usually kills the Rangers but he was to preoccupied with Carcillos antics….once again proving there is still room in the league for “super pests.”

How useless is Jay Rosehill if Luke Schenn decides he has to fight Dan Carcillo?

    Shaking my fucking head.

Rosehill is a heavyweight, Carcillo won’t fight Rosehill unless he’s forced to. If the Rangers had McIlrath up Rosehill would fight him.

Luke is a heavyweight and much more important on the ice than Rosehill. Rather have Rosehill in the box any day.

      • t800m101 - Jan 15, 2014 at 11:18 PM

Luke Schenn is more of an over-sized middleweight than a heavyweight. Also, Luke Schenn is a defensmen, so he will not fill the same role that Rosehill fills. If Carcillo would have fought Rosehill he would have gotten destroyed.

      • FlyersFan - Jan 16, 2014 at 8:50 PM

6′ 2″ 230lbs. is not a middleweight by any stretch of anyone’s imagination lol. Whether or not Carcillo would have fought Rosehill is besides the point. Rosehill has a specific role on this team and if Luke Schenn feels like he must take on Rosehill’s role then Rosehill isn’t doing his job and becomes utterly useless.

      • t800m101 - Jan 19, 2014 at 2:21 PM

The heavyweight can be very subjective. Most people would not consider Schenn a heavyweight considering who he usually fights against. He’s an oversized middlewight. Jaromir Jagr is 6’3 245 lbs, is he a heavyweight? Hell no. Like I’ve stated earlier, Carcillo 99 times out 100 will not fight someone like Rosehill. Carcillo is a middleweight and Rosehill is a heavyweight. Someone like Luke Schenn or Wayne Simmonds can handle someone like Carcillo, while Rosehill will handle the more experienced fighters such as McIlrath, Boulton, Carkner, Barch, Engelland, Orr, McGrattan, Rupp, Westgarth etc.

The Escort gives a goal to Nashville by taking one of the dumbest penalties ever seen.
