What to read as you sit there all depressed because you're at work today.
- I found the above photo that accompanies this article about Barack Obama visiting Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s church yesterday to be extremely powerful. [NYTimes]
- Keeping on the political theme for a moment, David Aldridge has a nice article this morning about how NBA players and execs are voicing their support for a presidential candidate louder than ever before. [Inquirer]
- The Sixers play an MLK Day matinee at the Wachovia Center today against the Pacers. 2 p.m. tip off. [Sixers]
- A dog named A-Rod, along with two humans, was murdered over the weekend. Jesus, this may be the worst story I've read in a while. [Inquirer]
- This video of the Phillies completion of that four game sweep over the Mets is always good to raise the endorphin levels. [B&C]
- Another article that mentions Peter Forsberg and the Flyers. Lots of questions. Not many answers. [Daily News]
- Your Philadelphia newspapers will be going up in price next month: "Monday through Saturday, The Philadelphia Inquirer and the
Philadelphia Daily News will cost 75 cents a copy starting Feb. 4. The
Inquirer now sells for 50 cents and the Daily News for 60 cents. The Sunday Inquirer will cost $1.75, up from $1.50 now." [Philly.com] - What you may have missed this weekend: Samuel Dalembert is a bad Canadian, the not yet in existence Major League Soccer team in Chester has a slight lead over St. Louis, Matt Hasselbeck was almost a Bear.
- And finally, just to touch on the Ryan Howard thing again. Sports talk hosts seem to be outraged that the Phillies only offered Ryan Howard $7 million while The Big Guy asked for $10. I don't see the big issue hear? Obviously in any negotiation both sides start out with their best interests in mind. Hopefully, at the end of the day, both sides will be happy. But baseball is, after all, a business.
