Moyer More Than an Arm

Sometimes you can't put a price tag on the value of a savvy veteran.  Jamie Moyer is certainly that at age 76.  He is showing many of the younger guys, including stud Cole Hamels a thing or two.

Drabek is not alone. Former starter Randy Wolf was seen many times talking pitching with Moyer during last season's stretch run. This year, Drabek and phenom Cole Hamels have picked his brain on several occasions.

"On top of being a baseball encyclopedia, he's one of the nicest guys I know," Hamels said in January during the Phillies winter tour. "Talking to Jamie, he's in his 40s and he says he still has things to learn, which shows me how much I have to learn. He's been a great help ever since I met him in Chicago and I would love to emulate him."

A lot of people, myself included, questioned bringing Moyer back for more than a season.  But if he can help turn Hamels into the player we all believe and hope he can be, it is certainly money well spent.  Plus, Moyer's a stand up guy and the kind of veteran you want in your clubhouse.
