Myers to Start, Lidge to Close

With the Phillies trade last night of Michael Bourn for Brad Lidge, Pat Gillick has stated that Myers will return to the starting rotation.
"Brett Myers is better than any starter available," Gillick said.  Indeed he is, Pat.  Now how does Brett feel about being reshuffled once again?

"Pat asked me how I felt about it and I said I'd do whatever was best
for the team.  It's a little
disappointing because I felt closing was good for me. But the team has
other needs and I can do both. I'm not surprised. You could read
between the lines."

Whatever that means.

The day after thoughts from around the web seem to be of the opinion that the Phillies got the better end of this one.  Many people felt that towards the end of last season, Lidge looked as good as he ever has.  On top of that, a fresh start in Philly should do him some good.  Let's see how this one plays out before we call the guy the next Tom Gordon -- even though I was ready to last night.

Many Phillies fans were more upset about giving up local boy Mike Costanzo rather than Michael Bourn, but again, people around the web seem to think the third baseman's ceiling is fairly limiting.

It's barely November and we're already excited about the '08 Fightins!  That just shows how putrid the Eagles have been.
